Is Your Genesis Among the 31,440 Recalled? Shocking Fuel Pump Alert!

  • Genesis has expanded its recall of vehicles equipped with a faulty fuel pump, as disclosed by the NHTSA.
  • The recall, initially initiated in September 2023, now includes 31,440 vehicles from the model years 2021 through 2023.
  • The defect lies in the low-pressure fuel pump, where the impeller can deform over time, compromising the fuel pump housing and leading to engine power loss and potential accidents.
  • Affected models include the 2022-2023 Genesis GV70, GV80, G80, and G90, while the G70 compact sedan is exempt.

In a recent disclosure by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Genesis has announced an expansion of its recall concerning vehicles equipped with a defective fuel pump.

The revelation came to light on Monday, stirring concerns among owners of affected models.

The initial recall, which commenced in September 2023, addressed approximately 19,000 cars grappling with the faulty fuel pump issue.

However, the latest expansion extends the recall to encompass a broader scope, now impacting a staggering 31,440 vehicles spanning the model years 2021 through 2023.

The crux of the problem lies in the low-pressure fuel pump, where an impeller component has been identified as prone to deformation over time. This deformation can compromise the integrity of the fuel pump housing, ultimately culminating in a shutdown of the fuel pump mechanism.

Consequently, this impedes the flow of gasoline to the engine, leading to a loss of power and heightening the risk of potential accidents.

Among the affected models included in the expanded recall are the 2022-2023 iterations of the Genesis GV70, GV80, G80, and G90. Notably, the G70 compact sedan has been exempted from this particular recall.

Drivers grappling with a malfunctioning fuel pump may experience symptoms such as engine stalls, hesitations, or a rough idle. Additionally, the appearance of a malfunction or check engine light on the instrument cluster could serve as an indicator of underlying issues.

Hyundai, the parent company of Genesis, has confirmed a total of 463 documented cases of fuel pump failures across the United States. Fortunately, no accidents, injuries, or fire incidents have been reported thus far.

Genesis has taken proactive measures to address the situation, with affected vehicle owners slated to receive official recall notifications via mail as early as June 18, 2024.

They are strongly urged to promptly schedule a visit to their nearest Genesis dealership, where trained service technicians will conduct the necessary replacement of the faulty fuel pump at zero cost to the vehicle owners.

Moreover, individuals who have previously incurred expenses for addressing this issue out of pocket can expect reimbursement for their expenditures.

For further inquiries or assistance, concerned parties are encouraged to reach out to Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 or visit the dedicated Genesis recall website.
