The Nissan Leaf is one of the pioneers of the electric car market, having launched in 2010 as one of the first mass-market EVs. However, after more than a decade and over 500,000 units sold worldwide, the Leaf is facing increasing competition from newer and more advanced rivals, especially in the fast-growing crossover SUV segment.
Exterior Upgrades
The exterior design of the new Leaf will be a radical departure from the current model, which has a more conventional hatchback shape. The new Leaf will feature a prominent v-shaped grill with LED headlights and daytime running lights, giving it a futuristic and aggressive look. The side profile will be characterized by a sharp beltline that rises towards the rear, creating a dynamic impression.
Interior Changes
The interior of the new Leaf will also be completely revamped with a minimalist and modern dashboard that houses a large touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster.
The center console will have a rotary gear selector and some physical buttons for climate control and other functions. The new Leaf will also have more cargo capacity, with an estimated 450 liters of boot space, expandable to 1,200 liters with the rear seats folded down.
Power & Performance
The new Leaf will be powered by a single electric motor on the front axle, delivering around 150 kW of power and 300 Nm of torque. The new Leaf will also have improved performance and efficiency compared to the current model, thanks to the CMF-EV platform that reduces weight and optimizes aerodynamics.
Release Date
The new Nissan Leaf is expected to be unveiled in late 2024, with sales starting in early 2025 in Europe and other markets. The new Leaf will be built at Nissan’s Sunderland Factory in the UK alongside two other electric models, the Juke EV and the Qashqai EV.
The price of the new Leaf is not yet confirmed, but it is likely to be slightly higher than the current model, which starts at £26,845 in the UK after incentives.
