The new FJ Cruiser is built on a rugged ladder-frame platform, shared with models like the 4Runner, Land Cruiser J250, GX, and Tacoma. It’s a nod to the classic Land Cruisers with a retro and boxy design, making it both stylish and functional.
Under the hood, the FJ Cruiser comes with a 2 TRF engine—the same reliable four-cylinder engine that powers the Tacoma. It produces 161 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Despite the modest numbers, this engine is quite capable, offering a towing capacity of 3500 lbs and a fuel efficiency of 22 MPG.
For those wanting more, Toyota is likely to offer a hybrid version. The hybrid engine, known as the i-Force MAX, combines a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, producing 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. It also boasts better fuel efficiency, with an estimated 27 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway.

However, after dealership markups, the price in the U.S. is likely to start around $30,000 and could go up to $40,000.
