The Sienna is the best minivan when it comes to gas mileage, but it is not the bestselling MPV. Toyota is not planning to seed the market to its competitors, so a significant redesign is coming for the 2025 Sienna. While an exterior facelift might catch the eye, practicality remains the key for minivans.
The vehicle will retain its three-row seating layout, sliding doors, and ample cargo space. However, it will feature more gadgets to make the ride cozier and more pleasant, especially for long family trips. The hybrid unit already offers impressive mileage, and another electrified configuration is joining the lineup.
The new Toyota Sienna will be available with a plug-in system that provides more power and an electric range. The Woodlands Edition drew attention, and the company might enhance the trim level lineup with another special package.
Since its debut in 2021, the current generation of the Sienna minivan has remained largely unchanged. However, after a few years on the market, the 2025 Toyota Sienna is due for a refresh. While it won’t be a major overhaul, enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating some interior updates.
On the exterior, minor tweaks will keep the MPV looking fresh and attractive. The facelift needs to draw attention, and small updates to the front fascia will make an impact, while changes to the rear will be minimal. Inside, expect more goodies and a reshuffling of accessories across trim levels.
The new minivan’s dashboard might be compared to the all-new 4Runner, though the SUV offers a more distinctive set of features.
The 2025 Toyota Sienna can accommodate up to eight passengers, while higher trim levels offer a seven-seat configuration with removable captain’s chairs in the middle row. The new Sienna could offer up to 110 cubic feet of total cargo space and 35 cubic feet behind the third row.
The design aims to enhance cabin accessibility and ease of access with a strong focus on comfort. The 2025 model year is set to elevate these aspects to higher levels.
The Safety Sense Suite includes park assist, a rear seat reminder, pedestrian detection, cruise control, auto high beams, and road sign recognition. Some notable goodies in the Sienna are voice recognition and audio commands, a larger touchscreen infotainment display, and USB ports for all passengers.
The minivan is also great for camping, thanks to a power outlet. An HD rear seat entertainment package is optional for top-of-the-line trim levels.
A hybrid system powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine lies under the bonnet of the 2025 Toyota Sienna, delivering a combined output of 245 horsepower. Compared to the previous Sienna’s V6 engine, the focus has shifted to improving fuel efficiency.
The new minivan achieves an impressive 36 miles per gallon in both city and highway driving. All-wheel drive is available, offering enhanced traction with minimal impact on fuel consumption, but it comes exclusively with the seven-seat layout.
Power is routed through a CVT transmission. The most important upgrade for the 2025 model year is the introduction of a plug-in hybrid configuration.
Deploying the same gas engine paired with a more potent electric battery, this setup delivers extra power while maintaining similar fuel economy. If Toyota adopts the configuration from the RAV4 crossover, Sienna drivers can expect around 302 horsepower and a gas mileage of at least 33 miles per gallon. The downsides include a higher initial purchase price and maintenance costs.
The Woodlands Edition adds several notable upgrades to the minivan. It uses a special grill and a unique paint job called Cement, giving it a sportier appearance.
All-wheel drive is standard, and the vehicle features a 0.6-inch lift. Though calling it an off-road minivan might be an overstatement, essentially, it’s an XLE model with a few extra tweaks. The LE remains the base version, the XSE serves as a mid-range option, and the Limited and Platinum are the premium models. Toyota may introduce another special package, but more details will be available once sales begin.
The entry-level model of the 2025 Sienna will be priced around $40,000. The XLE trim adds features valued at an additional $5,000.
For an extra $7,000, you can upgrade to the seven-seat Limited edition, which includes a wireless charger, cooled leather seats, and a JBL audio system. The Platinum package tops this with a heads-up display, premium leather, and heated second-row bucket seats.
However, the Sienna Platinum’s price is already close to $55,000, and with the redesign and new options, it could approach $60,000. The plug-in system will add a few thousand to the price of the 2025 Sienna. For instance, the price difference between a RAV4 hybrid and its plug-in hybrid counterpart is about $10,000.
Currently, the Chrysler Pacifica is the only minivan in the United States with a PHEV setup priced just under $40,000. The minivan market is shrinking, and besides these two, buyers can purchase only the Honda Odyssey and Kia Carnival. The new 2025 Toyota Sienna will debut in a few months, with sales launching this fall.
