2025 Toyota Crown Platinum – Everything You Need To Know

In 2023, Toyota made a surprising decision: they launched an all-new full-size sedan while most manufacturers are phasing theirs out. Just before introducing the Crown, Toyota discontinued their own full-size sedan, the Avalon. Despite this, the 2025 Toyota Crown offers unique characteristics that make it stand out, and we believe it’s worth your attention.

Thanks to Toyota, we had the privilege of testing the 2025 Toyota Crown Platinum for an entire week. During this time, we explored its features, performance, and overall experience.

Let’s kick things off with what’s under the hood. The Toyota Crown features Toyota’s Hybrid Max powertrain, a 2.4 L Turbo 4-cylinder engine paired with dual electric motors.

This setup delivers an impressive 340 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, all managed by a six-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive.

The car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in a brisk 5.8 seconds. It also offers a combined fuel economy of 30 MPG, with 29 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway, and a fuel tank capacity of 14.5 gallons.

Exterior Design: A Blend of Sedan and SUV

The Toyota Crown presents some interesting proportions. While it maintains the typical trunk of a sedan, it stands taller, giving it a silhouette similar to SUV coupes like the BMW X4.

The aggressive front end, with sharp angles and a mostly solid front grill, adds to its unique appearance. The gloss black central section with a geometric pattern and minimal openings for airflow is a distinctive touch.

The front design includes a flat silver trim piece that breaks up the dark color scheme, quad beam projector LED headlights, and LED turn signals that extend over the top of the grill.

On the sides, power folding mirrors with LED turn signals, chrome trim around the windows, and towards the rear, there’s that floating roofline illusion that looks pretty cool. Down towards the bottom, there’s a really thick gloss black trim piece that pops nicely off of this gray paint, while black cladding on the wheel arches and lower body adds an SUV-like vibe.

Wheels and Rear Design

The Crown rides on two-tone 21-inch wheels with a combination of gloss black and machined aluminum alloy. These 10-spoke wheels are paired with Bridgestone tanza el450 tires, sized at 225/45. Moving to the rear, the design might not be everyone’s favorite, but it remains clean with slim tail lights and a wide-spanning Crown branding.

The reverse lights and license plate are positioned low on the bumper, complemented by a silver accent and integrated reflectors and parking sensors.

Trunk Space

Opening the trunk reveals a generous 15.2 cubic feet of cargo space. The trunk is straightforward, with a 60/40 split for folding the seats and a spare tire and jack under the floor.

Interior Comfort and Materials

Stepping inside, the Toyota Crown Platinum impresses with its comfortable and stylish interior. The dashboard features soft materials with a rubberized texture, complemented by copper-colored accents.

This copper trim can be found below the screen, on the air vents, and around the volume knob, adding a touch of sophistication.

Door Panels and Steering Wheel

The door panels combine soft-touch materials and black leatherette with white contrast stitching. Bronze accents on the door handles and switch gear add a premium feel.

The steering wheel is fully leather-wrapped with light gray stitching, featuring paddle shifters and various controls for the gauge display, phone, volume, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, audio fast forward/rewind, and mode button. This steering wheel is also heated.

Gauge Cluster and Infotainment System

Above the steering wheel is a fully digital 12.3-inch gauge cluster that is highly customizable. Essentially, there are three different zones you can customize.

On the left side, it can show your fuel economy, eco score, EV ratio, navigation, audio, or nothing. On the right side, it can show trip computer, energy monitor, tire pressure, all-wheel drive system, fuel economy, or blank. In the center, it can show a map, settings, messages, or nothing. I find the map in the middle to be very useful.

In the center of the interior is a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB audio, SiriusXM radio, its own navigation system, and all your different settings for the vehicle. This also has an 11-speaker JBL audio system. Let’s take a quick listen while driving.

0-60 Test

The 2025 Toyota Crown Platinum, featuring the Hybrid Max powertrain, boasts impressive acceleration capabilities. According to performance tests, this model achieves a 0-60 mph time of approximately 5.7 seconds.

This quick acceleration is attributed to its 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four engine combined with electric motors, delivering a powerful 340 horsepower. This blend of power and efficiency positions the Crown Platinum as a competitive option in the luxury sedan market, providing a balanced mix of performance and fuel economy

Climate Control and Connectivity

Here we have our climate control buttons, which are indeed physical buttons. You have controls for your heated and ventilated front seats, defrosters, dual-zone climate settings, and more. As far as connections go, up here you have a wireless charger where the phone sits upright inside of it. It has two retractable clips on the inside to hold your phone in place. In my week that I’ve had it, it’s worked well with no issues with the charging.

Center Console and Sunroof

The center console includes a small transmission selector wrapped in leather with more copper trim. The backup and 360 camera have nice resolution, with distance markers and trajectory. The center console has two USB-C ports and a small storage compartment.

There’s a smoked gunmetal shiny finish on the top, a drive mode selector, and an electronic parking brake. The center console opens from both sides just like a Lexus. Inside there’s a little tray with felt on it, a 12V and a USB-A port, and it’s pretty small inside.

My biggest gripe with the car is the fixed panoramic moonroof that does not open. I always love to drive around with my sunroof open, so that may or may not be a deal breaker for me.

Rear Seat Comfort

In the rear, there’s plenty of legroom, even for taller passengers. The back seats feature leather upholstery with pockets on the front seatbacks. Rear passengers also benefit from AC vents, USB-C ports, heated seats, and a comfortable armrest with cup holders.

Competitors to the 2025 Toyota Crown Platinum

The 2025 Toyota Crown Platinum faces competition from models like the 2025 Toyota Camry and the Nissan Maxima. The Camry continues to be a favorite in the midsize sedan category, offering hybrid powertrains, updated styling, and advanced technology. Known for its reliability and fuel efficiency, the Camry presents a strong value proposition with competitive pricing.

Another notable competitor is the Nissan Maxima, which offers a sportier design and a powerful V6 engine. The Maxima is aimed at buyers who prioritize performance and luxury, featuring a well-appointed interior and advanced tech features. Its reputation for reliability and competitive pricing make it a formidable alternative to the Crown Platinum.
