2025 Toyota Supra: What You Need to Know About the Latest Model

We just got details on the 2025 Toyota Supra and it just got a whole lot more expensive to get your feet into one. When the Supra was relaunched here in the United States a few years back, the GR Supra, yes, it’s built in Austria with the help of BMW, but it has some of the best engines currently on the market.

The B58, especially on the 3.0 and 3.0 Premium, is arguably a perfect engine: crazy amounts of power, smoothness, torque, and from what I understand, highly tunable and very reliable.

Changes in Trim Options

But the 2.0 gave people pretty much the same styling as the 3.0. The wheels are a little bit smaller, if I remember right, compared to the 3.0, but most people aren’t going to be able to tell the difference between a 2.0 and a 3.0.

So if you just want to get your feet in a Supra, well, you could do it for about $9,000 less than going for the ludicrous super fast 0 to 60 in 4 seconds or 4 and a half seconds, whatever it is on the Supra. It’s just super, super fast.

You can’t get this option anymore. Check this out, take a victory lap. Well, it’s not a victory lap if you’re a fan of the 2.0.

Driving Experience and Engine Performance

Now, I reviewed the 2.0 and I’ve driven it around the track. In fact, I prefer to drive the 2.0 around the track because the power is so much more manageable with this short-wheel-based sports car. The 3.0 will punish you if you’re not careful. Unless you have a ton of track experience, the 3.0 is not that fun on a track, in my opinion.

The 2.0 has that sweet spot and it has around 255 horsepower. I think it was the same 2 L engine that I just drove in the BMW 530i, and it’s not a good powertrain for the 530i, but it’s a great powertrain for the Supra.

It’s so small and flickable, and 0 to 60 I want to say was around 5.2 seconds if I remember right, quicker with the 2.0.

Official Discontinuation and Market Response

But now the 2025 GR Supra is available in two grades: 3.0 and 3.0 Premium, that’s it. All right, no 2.0 available anymore. Now, when I looked on cars.com, what’s available out there, check this out, there are no 2.0’s even anyway.

So Toyota’s essentially already phased it out and they’ve just made it official here for the new 2025 model year. And what I also found interesting because you can still get the 2025 in the manual, check this out, there are more manuals than automatics. All right, that’s pretty crazy. Now, this is 145 Supras in the entire United States right now, so it’s not a high-volume car.

Analysis and Speculation

Toyota has really shrunk down the production on this model due to the lack of demand. Early buyers got in, that’s the way it always is. You have high volume when it, at least when it comes to specialty cars, you have high volume for the first two, maybe 3 years.

Things are changing, right? People aren’t as interested in it anymore as they were when it first came out. So volume is extremely low on the Supra, and there’s just no new 2.0’s even on the market, so it’s already been silently killed.

Now it’s official. Now, what’s interesting in this press release, I don’t see any mention of the 2.0 at all. So it’s not like, you know, it’s like Toyota’s just saying, hey, we totally forgot the 2.0 never existed because it’s not even addressed here in this press release for 2025.

Price Increase and Conclusion

And that’s fine because maybe they’re saying, hey, the take rate on the 2.0 was so low and the interest in it was so low that it’s not worth our time and effort to even have that trim level anymore. If you want a Supra, everyone wants the inline six, it seems like, and I would agree. Now, the 2.0 is not a bad car. Watch my review on it.

I really enjoy driving it. Let’s say you could get a new 2.0 for the price of a used 3.0, and there’s just no competition. The B58 engine is a piece of art, and it is so fun. All right, automatic or manual transmission is available on both grades of the 3.0, and you have a one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association.

Other than that, really, the vehicle is essentially unchanged, to my understanding. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they just carried over pictures of the 2024 model year. So we do have pricing even though the builder is not up, and the only 2.0 we have here is for the Renaissance Red paint color.

So again, no mention of the 2.0 2 L triple-charge powertrain. So the GR Supra for 2025 will hit dealer lots this fall with a starting MSRP of $56,250 plus DHP of $1,095.

All right, so we’re starting at $56,250, and then the Premium is $59,400. So $56,250, it’s gone up, what, $800, something like that compared to this year’s on the base 3.0, and $59,400, it’s gone up $200, $600 bucks somewhere around there, just doing bad math in my head.

So the prices have gone up about 800 bucks per 3.0, but the price to get into the vehicle has gone up from $46,440 to $56,250. So you’re essentially 10 grand more expensive to get your feet wet in a brand new Supra. But it is what it is. The 2.0 must not have been a popular option.

So let me know down below if you guys are a little sad, a little taken aback by the cancellation of the 2.0. You know, once you’re spending this much money on a specialty sports car, just go ahead and get the full-fat engine because this is a, the B58 is one of the best engines not only on the market, but you could argue it might be the best engine BMW’s ever made. All right, it is so good. And anytime I get a chance to drive or ride in a car with it, it is a good experience.

Future Speculations

Why are there no special editions? It seems like Toyota always has special editions for their sports cars. I think they might be waiting until, well, this is the time, in my opinion, this is the time you introduce the GRMN, the top-of-the-line performance Supra with 500 horsepower with that competition engine that we see in like the M3 competition or something like that.

I think this is the time to do it. And the rumors are, well, it’s been rumored for a long time, but the rumors are it would have the seven-speed dual-clutch instead of this 8-speed ZF.

I love the 8-speed ZF, but the 7-speed is going to be even faster, and it’s going to be rear-wheel drive. It won’t be all-wheel drive like you see in some of the BMW M models.

And so this thing, I mean, if the 3.0 is already tail happy, what’s going to happen with the GRMN? It’s going to have to be wider. They’re going to have to make the track wider in the rear especially. Well, they’ll do it in the front, but they’re going to have to make it wider so they can put in bigger tires when you have that sort of power and torque on a GRMN.

I think that’s, I mean, that’s my guess of what’s coming. This is such a sleepy article. Everything’s pretty much carried over besides the 2.0. If I just type in 2025 here, yeah, other than the pricing, there’s nothing new to my understanding. So it is what it is.

I’ll see you guys down below. Long live the Toyota Supra, even in its current form. It’s been a very successful car in terms of performance and acceleration, maybe not in terms of sales, maybe not in terms of initial reception. But there’s no doubt when you drive this car, it is fantastic.

Manual Transmission Experience

The manual on the 3.0, it’s not a perfect manual. If I remember right, the one-to-two shift, if you want it to be smooth, you got to double clutch it, which is a bit unacceptable to be honest, and you can’t just bang through the gears with that six-speed manual.

You really have to take the time to fly through the gears. You can’t hustle it. It’s still an absolute blast to drive. The 8-speed auto is no doubt absolutely faster than the manual, but the manual is really smooth, and it’s strange because in a Supra, I would want the manual to not only be smooth but also want to be hustled. And the manual here, I would give it a seven out of 10.
