The 2025 models are here, and while there have been major changes, I realized I hadn’t covered the X5 before, even though it’s one of the cars I’ve sold the most. I’ve extensively reviewed the X550e, so it’s time to give the X540i its spotlight.

2025 BMW X5 Performance and Engine
The 2025 BMW X5 is available in several configurations, including the sDrive40i, xDrive40i, xDrive50e, and the high-performance M60i.
The sDrive40i and xDrive40i models are powered by a 3.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine with 375 horsepower and a 48V mild hybrid system, providing smooth acceleration and improved fuel efficiency.
The hybrid xDrive50e combines a turbocharged engine with an electric motor for enhanced power and efficiency, achieving 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.
The M60i variant boasts a 4.4-liter V8 engine with 523 horsepower, delivering an exhilarating driving experience with a 0-60 mph time of 4.2 seconds
Technology and Connectivity
The 2025 X5 is equipped with the BMW Operating System 8.5, featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central information display. This system supports voice commands, touchscreen inputs, and the iDrive touchpad controller.
Standard connectivity features include wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and wireless device charging. The My BMW App allows remote vehicle management, including engine start, locking/unlocking doors, and checking vehicle status
Exterior and Design
The 2025 BMW X5 comes in a stunning Frozen Pure Gray color, a matte finish that requires extra care. This specific model features LCI-specific type 21-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires (275x45x21 in the front). The LED headlights and lighted front kidney grill add a touch of elegance.
The M Sport Professional package enhances the sporty look with a blacked-out kidney grill, rear exhaust, and more aggressive fender flares that match the body color.
You can choose between red or blue calipers, both of which look fantastic with the black kidney grill. These features make the X5 stand out on the road.
Cargo Space and Practicality
Cargo space remains a strong point for the X5, offering up to 72.3 cubic feet of cargo space accessible via a split-tailgate design. The 21-inch run-flat tires provide plenty of storage space in the rear.
However, if you upgrade to 22-inch tires, you lose the run-flat feature, which is a significant consideration. Keep in mind that opting for a trailer hitch means you won’t get the kick-to-open and close tailgate feature.
Despite these trade-offs, the X5 offers ample space and versatility for everyday use.
Interior Comfort and Features
Inside, the X5 is just as impressive. The cifin seats are comfortable and easy to clean, making them a great choice for families. These seats, introduced in 2023 or 2024, are not real leather but are high-quality and durable.
The M Sport steering wheel is comfortable and high-quality, perfect for long drives.
The car features a full panoramic sunroof with a power shield for added convenience. The Harman Kardon sound system, an $875 option, provides superior sound quality and is part of the premium package.
The ambient lighting offers 17 different colors, allowing you to set the mood with your voice by saying “Hey BMW.”
The X5 also includes a heads-up display, remote engine start, and parking assist, which makes it easy to park the car. The climate comfort package adds rear heated seats, which are great for small children.

2025 BMW X5 Pricing and Options
The X5 received a slight price increase for 2025, around $500 to $700. The Frozen Pure Gray metallic paint is a matte finish that requires extra care. If you drive a lot, consider getting PPF (paint protection film) for the mirror caps, fenders, and front bumper to protect the finish.
The M Sport package includes more aggressive styling, adaptive M suspension, and a beefier M steering wheel. Parking assist and premium packages are recommended for added convenience. The climate comfort package and trailer hitch are optional but can enhance the car’s versatility.
The 2025 BMW X5 starts at $65,700 for the base sDrive40i model, with the xDrive40i starting at $68,000. The hybrid xDrive50e is priced at $73,100, and the M60i starts at $90,000.
These prices reflect modest increases from the previous year, aligning with the added features and improvements in the new models
Should You Buy It?
The 2025 BMW X540i is a great choice if you want a powerful, sporty SUV with excellent handling and luxurious features.
However, if you’re considering the X550e, it might be worth the extra investment for even better performance. The X550e offers additional features and improved performance, making it a top choice.
Competitors
The 2025 BMW X5 faces competition from several other midsize luxury SUVs. Key rivals include:
