What is it? This is your upgraded, updated 2025 Acura MDX. This particular one is known as the MDX Advanced trim. But before we get into this midsize three-row crossover SUV, let’s talk about what’s going on here.
It goes all the way back to 2001. That was a very important year for Acura because that is when they came out with the MDX. And it’s been a crazy journey because this brand, this premium brand of Honda that’s been around since 1986, has really brought a lot of amazing vehicles to market.
Now what’s fascinating is in 2001, things were still quite fresh when it came to crossover SUVs. Today, you fast forward to model year 2025, there are tons of different ways to get your crossover SUV.
But you know what? Acura really has stuck to their roots, making sure to bring vehicles that have that precision-crafted performance but also the reliability and all the fine touches because of being that luxurious brand known as Acura.
Now, there are a lot of different competitors from a lot of different areas of the world. What I want to find out is, is the Acura MDX, especially this Advanced trim, is this the best way to go when you’re looking for that midsize luxury crossover SUV? Let’s go ahead, let’s find out what’s new and find out what is different with this vehicle and see if it’s the one that you should be buying. Let’s check it out.
Exterior Design
Right off the bat, you’re still going to get that familiar shape and overall dimensions. So you’re still going to get that full LED lighting effect, that goes without saying. Now, they did tweak the housing just a little bit to darken the area just to give it a little bit classier appearance.
At the forefront of the design, the full LED lighting effect immediately commands attention. From the chicane daytime running lamps to the multi-D LED headlight setup and turn signals, each detail is illuminated with precision.
Acura has taken it a step further by adjusting the housing to darken the area slightly, imparting a touch of sophistication to the overall appearance.
I’ve always liked how Acura sculpts everything. They really walk on that thin line because it is such a thin line between being too sporty, too aggressive, but also classy and luxurious. And I think they really hit the nail on the head, not only with how they designed the corner air curtain here, but on this Advanced trim, you’ll notice some of the nice little touches with the chrome finish.
Despite my usual aversion to chrome, I must admit that Acura has executed it flawlessly on the Advanced trim. The chrome finish is subtle yet sophisticated, adding a touch of elegance without overpowering the design. Paired with LED fog lamps and color-matched accents, the result is a harmonious blend of style and functionality.
Moving on to the grille, Acura has once again pushed the boundaries of design. The gloss black finish, intersecting crisscross pattern, and prominent Acura badge pay homage to the brand’s rich heritage while exuding a sense of modernity.
The lack of an actual edge on the top portion of the grille adds depth and dimension, further emphasizing the MDX’s dynamic presence on the road.
As we travel down the front fascia, the attention to detail becomes even more apparent. Flat black accents provide a striking contrast and offer practicality, ensuring durability against the rigors of the road.
Meanwhile, the resculpted top portion of the front fascia strikes the perfect balance between sportiness and sophistication, setting the stage for an unforgettable driving experience.
Power and Performance
Let’s talk about what’s under the hood of the 2025 Acura MDX Advanced trim – it’s a familiar sight, but one that’s consistently impressive. Lift up the hood, and you’ll find the same exact setup as before. And you know what? That’s not a bad thing at all.
The MDX continues to boast a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine, delivering a robust 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque.
Paired with the incredibly smooth 10-speed automatic transmission, this powertrain offers a seamless driving experience whether you’re cruising in automatic mode or taking control with the paddle shifters behind the wheel.
But here’s where things get interesting – Acura offers the MDX in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. This versatility allows you to tailor your driving experience to suit your needs and preferences.
If you’re in an area with mild weather conditions and prioritizing fuel efficiency, the front-wheel drive option provides that extra boost in MPGs. However, if you encounter more challenging road conditions, rest assured that the all-wheel drive configuration has you covered.
Now, what’s great is that this one being a 2025 model year, they actually went with a little bit larger of a wheel and tire. And I think that it really works with the overall design. And I love the machined aluminum and you have a little bit of gunmetal gray.
Everything else on the fender treatment and the bottom portion is spot on the money, especially with the side sill extension color matched top and bottom.
On the Road Experience
Alright, let me take you on a personal journey with the 2025 Acura MDX Advanced trim. As we pulled out of Crown Acura, the first thing I noticed was the seamless smoothness of this vehicle. The 10-speed automatic transmission effortlessly delivered power to the wheels, ensuring a silky-smooth ride with every acceleration.
Speaking of power, the naturally aspirated V6 engine under the hood provided ample power without the need for turbo lag or waiting for boost to kick in. Step on the throttle, and you’re greeted with an immediate response that propels you forward with confidence.
One of the standout features of the Advanced trim is the heads-up display, which proved invaluable in keeping my focus on the road ahead. With vital information projected onto the windshield, I could stay informed without having to take my eyes off the road.
Now, let’s talk about the suspension. Acura has fine-tuned the suspension for the 2025 model year, striking the perfect balance between sportiness and comfort. Whether navigating city streets or tackling winding roads, the MDX handled with poise and agility, never sacrificing comfort even during daily commutes or family outings.
As we came to a stop at a traffic sign, I couldn’t help but appreciate the smoothness of the braking system. The pedal feel was just right, offering a reassuring sense of control whether cruising or cornering.
And when it was time to unleash the MDX’s power once again, the 10-speed automatic transmission seamlessly dropped down a gear, unleashing the engine’s full potential with effortless grace.
Inside the cabin, the MDX cocooned us in luxury and refinement. The sound insulation was superb, keeping the interior quiet even at highway speeds. It was a testament to Acura’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship, evident in every detail of the vehicle.
As we wrapped up our journey and returned to Crown Acura, I couldn’t help but reflect on the exceptional experience the 2025 MDX Advanced trim had provided. From its smooth power delivery to its refined interior, it’s clear that Acura has once again raised the bar for luxury SUVs.
