Inside the NX 350, there’s a handy cargo cover. It’s a soft cover that clips to the sides and folds in half when you lift it, providing partial coverage without getting in the way. What’s genius about Lexus is the storage spot for this cover. Lift the cargo carpet, and you’ll find a hidden compartment perfect for storing the cover, making the trunk about 20% larger.
Practical Accessories for the NX
The NX also comes with some great accessories. My favorite is the pet divider and pet screen. These are perfect if you have a dog, like my golden doodle.
The pet screen attaches to the seat rests, and the divider goes in the center, creating a safe and comfortable space for your pet.
Other thoughtful touches include cargo hooks for securing your grocery bags, preventing them from tipping over during your drive. The seats fold down in a 60/40 split, giving you plenty of room for larger items. However, you do need to fold them from the back seat, not the cargo area.
Illuminating Details
In terms of lighting, the NX features two lights in the cargo area and another small light on the hatch, ensuring visibility even in the dark. There’s also a 12V outlet, perfect for plugging in a cooler or other accessories.
Shifting Focus: Lexus RX 350
Now, let’s shift our focus to the RX 350. As you approach it, you’ll notice it’s taller and wider than the NX. The cargo net in the RX is larger and opens similarly to the NX’s net, with hooks on either side. However, the RX also has additional lower hooks for strapping down cargo.
Inside the RX, you still have the carpeted mat and a large user manual kit. Under the carpet, there’s a different kind of hidden compartment. This space is substantial and removable, making it easy to clean or use for extra storage. You’ll also find a full-size temporary spare tire and, in hybrid models, the car battery.
Innovative Cargo Cover
The RX features a hard cargo cover that rolls up and hooks in automatically. Removing it is straightforward, but finding a storage spot for it isn’t as easy as in the NX. The RX lacks an under-floor storage area for the cover, but you can always find creative ways to stow it.
Power and Convenience
One of the standout features in the RX is the power folding rear seats. With the press of a button, the seats fold down, providing versatile cargo space.
Unlike the NX, the RX offers a center fold option, allowing you to carry long items like skis or a 2×4 while still accommodating passengers. Additionally, the RX has hooks for your grocery bags and a 12V outlet, similar to the NX.
